HONG KONG British China 1937 Hindenburg Zeppelin Crash USA Diverted Dual Frank Cover
Hong Kong to San Francisco cover for a connection to the Hindenburg LZ129 Zeppelin ariship's return flight from the US, which never took place due to the tragic crash. With New York May 6 CDS on the Trans-Pacific stamps -- the May 7 cancel of course never happened. Covers that didn;t make the last flight are the closest most of us will get to a Hindenburg crash cover, and additionally, this is about as close as you can get to a Chinese-franked Zeppelin cover. '17 CV only EUR500 which I think is quite low given the extreme scarcity

England 1929 Charles Denistoun Burney R100 1929 Airship Zeppelin Autograph USA Air Show
USA event cover with 5c Beacon airmail from the East St Louis airshow in 1929, autographed by inventor, navy commander, and later Vice Admiral Charles Denistoun Burney, and prominent booster for English dirigible power. When his schem for an airship fleet was alterd (the Burney Scheme) he still became the head of the subsequent Airship Guarantee Company which produced the R100 airship [thanks to Wiki for details]. Scarce, and with a great provenance: from the estate of the original collector, John Strauss, who collected these (and everything else Zeppelin) in the period as new issues / first flights. Sent to his home in Chicago.

England 1929 Major GH Scott Captain R34 R100 R101 Airship Zeppelin Autograph
USA registered return receipt cover for package signed for by Major George Herbert Scott, commander of the English R34, R100, and ultimately the ill-fated R101 whose crash took his life. Very rare, and with a great provenance: from the estate of the original collector, John Strauss, who collected these (and everything else Zeppelin) in the period as new issues / first flights. The clever collector sent a registered package to Scott's residence in Cardington, return receipt requested, so that the autograph was returned. With the collector's original typed explanation, completed before Major Scott's fatal flight the next year.

Do You Like That? Air Raid on Cologne V1 Dropped Leaflet.
An extremely rare leaflet dropped once (or at least found only once) at a V1 crash site in southeast England. The text "Do you like that? You do? You may not in a months time! Air Raid on Cologne June 28/29, 1943" and then an arrow points to the other side, which displays a stack of bodies, mostly children, gathered after the Cologne raid. It's hard to say definitively, but judging by auction appearances this seems to to be rarer than all of the V1 POW Post leaflets save No22. In any case, there are only a handful known. Worn and creased, as per scan.

Italy Boccasile V2 Rocket RSI Italian SS Laughing Roosevelt Propaganda Card
...a dir le mie virtu basta un sorriso... / ...to say my virtues a smile is enough...: Rare Boccasile propaganda card for the RSI. The Italian artist produced propaganda for Mussolini's regime, and with the dictator's capture (and subsequent mountaintop rescue), moved to north as part of the RSI and joined the Italian SS, producing works such as this. I'm not supposed exact meaning -- German V2's ballistic missiles are raining down on an Italian city with a chortling Roosevelt appearing from the smoke. I guess since the south of Italy capitulated to the Allies the Germans are going to bomb them? Not a succinct message, at least to me, but a very rare card. Unused in excellent condition.

This is leaflet numbered AI-092-8-44; "AI" stands for Propaganda Abschnitts Offizer Italien (see the excellent psywarrior article for more information). Each in the series depicts V1's, aka 'Doodlebugs' and 'Flying Robots', flying towards/over England. V1 1944 Bombing England Italy Rocket Propaganda Leaflet
Rocket leaflet prepared by the Germans for the British, extolling their secret weapon, the V1 rocket. The code on the reverse, AI-077-6-44 shows that this was dropped on Allied troops in Italy in 1944 -- "AI" stands for Propaganda Abschnitts Offizer Italien (see the excellent psywarrior article for more information), as they fought up the boot. It shows the V for V1 / Victory over London burning. Great original piece of history, from the world's first mechanical (also called at the time 'flying robots') rocket attacks. 3rd Reich Germany V1 Propaganda Leaflet POW Letters What An American Citizen Thinks

These were dropped on Belgium in September 1944 and Matsbos, Holland, early in 1945 [Joe Nagl, via Psywarrior.com]. Germany 1944 V1 Rocket Flown Leaflet Berlin 1944 The Other Side Nr3 Christmas Greetings
Rocket leaflet prepared by the Germans for the Allies, extolling their secret weapon, the V1 rocket. This series is quite rare, with only a handful known to exist in England. There is a great article on the V1 leaflets on the Psywar website. Some V1's carried, in additional to their explosive payload, a small canister of leaflets which were deployed around the site of impact -- this is one of the few survivors. It's a four page (single fold) newspaper giving the current 'news', with a German slant, of course. Issue number three was deployed over the Netherlands. Very scarce, V1 leaflet in top condition.
