Letter written at Budweis, Bohemia (then part of the Austrian Empire) on January 6, 1646 during the Thirty Year's War by the Bishop of Olomouc and Passau, Colonel of Imperial Troops, Leopold Wilhelm. Orders the citizens of Eger, Bohemia to oppose the Swedes who had been invading/occupying Imperial lands for decades at this point. Decorative letter with royal seal; a genuine piece of Hapsburg - Austrian - European history that really belongs in a museum.

Original letter from Matthias I in 1596 (as Archduke of Austria, before he became Emperor) to the Duke of Herzogburg with his signature 'Matthias'. With original ducal paper and wax seal - Schnoerkelbrief mit papiergedecktem Siegel und eigenhaendiger Unterschrift vom Kaiser (1612-1619) adressiert: "Dem Ersamen Geistlichen unserem lieben Andaechtig ... Probsten des Gotteshaus Herzogburg" datiert 20. Juni 1596, betitelt: "Mathias von Gottes gnaden Erzherzog zu Oesterreich, Herzog zu Burgund ... zu Tyrol".

Original letter from Ludwig Freiherr Radwig de Susa / Louis Raduit Graf de Souches, a Huguenot who started Thirty Year's War on the Swedish side switched to the Habsburgs in 1642 and executed his Imperial duties such that he rose to the rank of Field Marshall. Written after the end of the 30 Year's War, during his time as a member of the Privy Council and as head of the City Guard of the Empire's capital at Vienna. Comes with a period portrait of the Feldmarschall.

Mylau, Sachen / Saxony postcard used as a Feldpost from Freikorps Grenzschutz Ost grenadier with the Kaiser Alexander Garde-Grenadier Regiment 1 on the front lines of the border wars in the East following the collapse of the German Empire in WWI. With Deutsche Feldpost 3-star cancel and datelined DF (German Feldpost number) 711. With handstamp of the Kaiser Alexander Regiment (rare). This unit fought after the end of the war on the Eastern border, then was moved to fight the Communists in Munich, then moved back to Tarnowitz in Schlesien / Poland to fight the Poles on the German borders until being moved again to Berlin during the Kapp Putsch in March of 1920. (See the Wikipedia entry for the Alexander-Garde-Grenadier Regt) Whew! A lot of action considering the war 'ended' in Nov 1918.

Freikorps Registered Feldpost; worn, folded, good condition, as per scans. With cachet of the Reichswehr, Gruppe 'A', from before there was an official defense force of the new government, during the violent Strassenkampf or 'street battles' between the left wing Spartakists / Communists and the center-right (Socialists, Imperialists, and Freikorps in an uneasy alliance) as both sides attempted to seize power. After early Communist victories the Socialist-Right Wing coalition (led by Friedrich Ebert) eventually won. Later, though, many of those same Freikorps soldiers turned on the Republic they helped found, yet despised, and joined the SA, where their street muscle was used by a certain Austrian corporal to propel himself into power.
